SWIP UK Panel 2010

The Joint Session of the Mind Association and Aristotelian Society, University College Dublin,9th-11th July 2010

At the 2010 Joint Session SWIP UK organised a panel of papers and presentations devoted to topics in areas of interest to women in philosophy.

Papers:

13.30-14.00 Lindsey Porter (Sheffield) 'Maternal Obligation and Why Adoption is not Abortion‐Lite’

14.00-14.30 Luna Dolezal (UCD) 'Sartre, Shame and the Body: Feminist Reflections'

Presentations:

14.30-15.00 Clare Saunders (HEA Subject Centre for Philosophical Studies) 'Diversity in Philosophy?'

A review of the evidence regarding patterns of recruitment and retention in philosophy from new students to the professoriate and exploration of the explanatory hypotheses and remedial suggestions proposed to address the issues raised.

15.00-16.30 Attracta Ingram (UCD) and Jenny Saul (Director of SWIP UK)

Short presentations on activities and initiatives of SWIP UK that support women in philosophy, followed by an open audience discussion of issues relevant to women working in Ireland - with a view to launching SWIP Ireland.
