Women in Philosophy in the UK: BPA/SWIP UK Report

The British Philosophical Association Committee for Women in Philosophy together with SWIP UK have published an important new report. This report presents data from the UK showing that women are increasingly under-represented as they progress through career stages in philosophy.  It argues that the philosophical profession should try to redress this imbalance, just as the sciences have tried to do.  Drawing on key findings from the literature on implicit bias and stereotype threat, the report presents a list of recommendations for departments, for teaching committees, for editors, for research committees, for individuals, etc.  The BPA asks that this report be widely circulated to all students and staff, and that it be discussed at department meetings and at meetings of the relevant departmental and other committees.
